LRTC is a non-partisan group formed to discuss transport issues affecting regional New South Wales and communicate the concerns of regional people to government and other organisations. We comment on a range of transport problems and developments. Our advocacy spans policy issues and large infrastructure projects. See our Commentary and Advocacy pages for more information.
NEWS
At our meeting on 23 August, members and guests watched the video ‘The Grain Train Race’ and expressed concern about the issues raised. The meeting confirmed that the ‘The Grain Train Race’ should be placed on our website and given wide distribution.
'The Grain Train Race' is about an hypothetical race between two trains in New South Wales as they travel to silos and load. The 'Race' is used to illustrate a range of issues around road and rail transport while looking at train operation and infrastructure. We see
· the changed pattern of grain transport
· poor road conditions
· greater dependence on road transport amid high fatality rates.
The hypothetical race is contested by two trains as they travel the same distance on different tracks to their loading points and load. The first train to finish loading wins the hypothetical race. The story is based on official operating conditions (TOCs) in 2024.
LRTC had earlier made a submission to the NSW Freight Policy Reform Program in response to the release of an ‘Interim Directions’ paper. The submission is available on our Advocacy page - please click here.
The Government has accepted the report of the Reform Program Panel. Copies are available here.
Infrastructure developments advocated by LRTC are indicated in the map below. Click on a blue teardrop or line for more information.
The Lachlan Regional Transport Committee was established in 1983. It draws its membership from the outskirts of Sydney through Wollongong to regional cities and across inland New South Wales.
